Location - Leake Street, Waterloo

Leake Street is an alley way near Waterloo Station just opposite the London Eye. It is a place where people can graffiti and not get prosecuted for it. It is a place where people can show off their talents through art and it says a lot about culture. Their is a real family atmosphere there, when we went to film our video there we didn't feel threatened or embarrassed by all the people around. It is a well known place for tourists as i counted around 5 or 6 walk through in the 2/3 hours we were filming there.

Iconic Image

Iconic Image, Radio.

We used one similar to the picture provided. We were influenced to have this prop for our music video as we wanted to have a iconic image which would be recognized in the video and be used as the album cover. Examples of iconic images are Calvin Harris's glasses, Eminem's watch, and Cher Lloyed's own radio herself.

Donkeyboy's Record Label

Donkeyboy were signed to Warner Music after a employee came across their Music on MySpace. The Warner Music Group is the third largest business group in the recording industry, along with the Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment. Warner Music have also signed up artists such as Phil Collins, Oasis, Johnny Cash, Eagles and more modern stars such as Michael Buble, JLS, Flo Rida, Bruno Mars and Nickelback.
In May, 2011, the company announced its sale to Access Industries for $3.3 billion in cash.

Lyric Analysis. Stereolife - Donkeyboy

I got a plan and I'll stay on my own
I got a dream that I should let go                       1.
Waiting for the day to come                              2.

I know, I got a player that is out of control
You gotta stay on my radio                               3.
Waiting for the day to come                              4.

And I know
Spill it on fire and gold
How could I lose control
Cause it's you and I higher than all
Fire is going away
You're a star now stay on your own
I feel you spin my life outa control                  5.

I gotta work it out, take it away
I gotta feel every word you say                       6.
I'm waiting for the day to come

I know, I feel I keep crossing the line
And it feels like a crime zip-line                     7.
Waiting for the day to come

And I know
Spill it on fire and gold
How could I lose control
Cause it's you and I higher than all
Fire is going away
You're a star now stay on your own
I feel you spin my life outa control

And I know...

And I know
Spill it on fire and gold
How could I lose control
Cause it's you and I higher than all
Fire is going away
You're a star now stay on your own
I feel you spin my life outa control

Spill it on fire and gold
How could I lose control
Cause it's you and I higher than all
Fire is going away
You're a star now stay on your own
I feel you spin my life outa control

1. By having a plan and staying on his own then having a dream that he needs to let go, it could mean that he is going to have to go against his dream for the better of himself and for the better of other people around him.

2. Waiting for the day to come, he is perhaps waiting for his big break or waiting for a bug event.

3. A player out of control that needs to stay on his radio, it could signify that he or something close to him is going crazy, a player, perhaps a CD player keeps on skipping or pauses. Maybe a friend keeps on skipping and by needing to stay on his radio, he needs to stay in order and organized.

4. He again says waiting for the day to come, he could be waiting for his favorite song to come up on the radio.

5. The chorus goes on about fire and how its going away, he is a star and needs to be on his own. This could refer back to the first line, he has now made it as a star perhaps because the star's song is now on the radio. He now maybe needs to stay on his own otherwise the "fire will go away".

6. He needs to think every step he takes through.

7. He's on a crime zip-line, this could refer back to when he was on zip lines when he was in the playground, wants to go back to that life perhaps.

Overall the lyrics don't make sense. You could perhaps get out of it that he's a singer living amongst his radio, waiting for his song to come up on the radio along with his fantasies.

Music Video Preliminary Task - Music Promo

We were given a task to make a music video promo in preperation for making our actual coursework piece. What we learned was that it is time consuming, it took us the best part of 3 weeks to make the whole video. We also found out that we need to film a lot more then we actually need, it would come in use whe we were editing as we had more then just the one option of shots, as well as learning how to use iMovie editing and sounds.

Album Cover Analysis

Bruno Mars - Doo-Wops and Hooligans

Bruno Mars's album cover here signifies how far he along with all other emergeing artists have come. You can see that he is just a little black figure that doesn't mean much and is in the middle of a wide and long road, but as the path goes along it narrows down and is shown as the material left by a jet. This could siginfy that he had to come a long way but he is getting closer and closer to stardom and fortune, which is shown by the jet which could be seen as his own private plane.

A Star Formed - Ndubz

Ndubz are a band formed of cousins Dappy and Tulisa, along with friend Fazer. They were a very urban style band from Camden who grew up in rough estates and had experienced a life of violence, drugs and gang culture.

You can see that as their name has got bigger so has their image, you can see in the first video "Feva Las Vagas" that they look as if they had just come out of their council house and started filming whilst in their latest video "Morning Star" Tulisa and Fazer are in smart dresses/suits. Dappy however does keep his urban style and the hat is seen as his trademark, it also is their to signify how far they have come from their childhood.

These albums covers also show how their image has changed  (Improved) from when they first started to where they are now.

As they have got bigger they have now got their own reality tv show "Being Ndubz" on Channel 4. Dappy has colloborated with rapper Tynchey Stryder for hits "Number 1" and "Spaceship". Whilst Tulisa was asked to be a judge on The X Factor and has been seen by critics and the public as a success and seems to be preferred more than her predicessor, Cheryl Cole.

My Favorite Music Video Director - Colin Tilley

Examples of Colin Tilley Videos

Colin Tilley, a regular worker with Chris Brown, usually works with artists of black origin and they are usually singing about a girl. You can see that he likes to be known as his name usually comes up on the titles at the start of the video. When you see his name you can usuallu expect a black/mixed race singer and a dance routine.

Intertextuality

Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls

This video has clear intertextuality in that around every 5 seconds it changes from a modern day theme to a 80's theme and it shows how the same diner has changed and peoples different dress senses. You see towards the end of the video Sean Kingston singing on a black and white screen which could further demonstrate how long ago it was.

Eminem - We Made You

This video is really good example of a parody music video. Eminem mocks a lot of different media areas such as reality tv stars and film stars, in a four minute video he Jessica Simpson, Bret Michaels, Britney Spears, Kevin Federline, Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Ronson, Amy Winehouse, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, Jessica Alba, Elvis Presley, Tony Romo, John Mayer, Jennifer Aniston, and Kim Kardashian. Eminem even spoofed himself, wearing an ALF t-shirt and holding a cake, referencing a commonly circulated pre-fame photo of him of when he was a youth.

Fergie - Glamorous

This video intertextualises a "Glamorous" life style and a big stars life style. It starts with a shot that goes back to 1994 so older people can remember and relate to it. It also goes from the present day back to that era and you see how things were different such as their dress sense and what car they had. It then goes to a old fashion western movie set.

Voyeurism

Rihanna - S&M

This is one really good example that can be used to describe the voyeurism. At 1.20 you can see Rihanna trapped on clingfilm, this could mean that she is just a exhibition for men to glare at all they want. At 1.55 she is holding a box of candy, which could signify her bieng just eye candy for men.

50 Cent - P.I.M.P

You can see very early on at 0.17 that the women has got some jewerally around her neck, this could signify that she is just something that 50 Cent just owns or has as a speciemen. This is further backed up at 1.12 where you see a car moving in slow motion across the screen, then at 1.17 you see him coming out of the car with a girl, which again could mean that the girl is just a object. Then at 2.44 you see the camera quickly cutting across a line of girls, which could be asking you, have your pick.

Britney Spears- Womanizer

At 0.17, you can see Britney Spears wearing her top so you can see her bra whilst she is at the kitchen, that is the best sight for a guy and signifies that men see women just as good things to look at whilst making dinner. At 1.16 you see the guy try to touch Britney Spears but then having his hands taken away, this siginifies the viewers urge to want to touch her, but there is no way the viewer can. Throughout the video you see Spears portray herself as a promiscuous black haired secretary, a red haired waitress and a blonde, this could say that all different types of women could be eye candy to men.

Katy Perry - California Girls

You see right at the start at 0.07 that Snoop Dog puts down a figure of Katy Perry on a board then a few moments later rolls a dice, this could signify that Katy Perry is just the mans counter and he has the decision as to what moves he makes, i.e he is in complete control of her. You then see at shot 1.28 a girl is trapped inside a green jelly cube, which again signifies that women are just eye candy to men. Shot 2.02 you see a girl in wrapping paper, shows that women are just a item.
